  10.  AB    The Women and Family HIV Centre is a multi-disciplinary facility
  11.        designed to address the unique medical and psychosocial needs of
  12.        infected women, children, youth and families living in B.C. The centre
  13.        is jointly sponsored by the Women's Health Centre (WHC) and B.C.'s
  14.        Children's Hospital (BCCH) and funded by the B.C. Ministry of Health. A
  15.        Steering Committee consisting of five members of the Positive Women's
  16.        Network (PWN), representatives from the founding institutions, and
  17.        several community agencies was established. The committee actively
  18.        lobbied several key government ministries, and letters of support were
  19.        obtained from the B.C. Centres for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, St. Paul's
  20.        Hospital HIV Care Team, appointed designates of the University of
  21.        British Columbia, Hospital administrations, the Vancouver Health
  22.        Department, government STD Prevention Programs, the Canadian Clinical
  23.        Trials Network, and from prominent municipal politicians. The Steering
  24.        Committee has ensured 1) credibility of the centre within the community,
  25.        2) responsiveness to community needs and 3) funding support in the face
  26.        of significant cuts in hospital and health care budgets. The Steering
  27.        Committee is being transformed into a Community Advisory Board designed
  28.        to ensure that the initial successful results continue to be realized.
